Biography
Mario is a scientist and “mitochondriac”, with a strong expertise on energy balance at the cellular level during physiological challenges such as fasting, exercise, but also aging. Over the course of his scientific career, he developed a keen interest in the role of mitochondria, the “powerhouses” of our cells, as important players for metabolic health and he is currently studying the action of natural autophagy-inducing food compounds that boost our muscle mitochondrial fitness.
Philosophy
As a nutrition scientist, I aim to design and communicate concepts for sustainable and healthy diets of the future, keeping in mind that there is neither a “planet B”, nor a “body B”. In terms of fasting, I intuitively go for a 16:8 or 18:6 fasting schedule, which helps me clear my mind, awaken my senses and fine-tune my metabolism. This naturally activating effect of intermittent fasting is something I benefit from a lot as the father of two energetic young girls – for whom I want to live a healthy lifestyle. Striving to ensure a healthy lifespan, which I do by exercising, healthy eating, music and dancing, laughing, and finally encouraging my children to do the same.
